Peloton reached out to me to help them design a Black History Month inspired sports wear collection for their members. I partnered up with two black instructors (Jess Sims and Dr. Chelsea Jackson Robertson) to talk about what Black History Month meant to them and what they’d like to see in this collection. We talked about how the black experience wasn’t linear –– meaning a lot of us have gone through different things in life and some of us realize our blackness sooner than others. We also wanted to create something that was vibrant, eye catching and also wearable ALL YEAR LONG. The inspiration from this collection comes from the Andrika symbol (Sankofa) which means to Retrieve (Go back and get). We wanted to make sure we were remembering and honoring our ancestors as we celebrate Black History Month because if it wasn’t for them we wouldn’t be where we are today.
