THE ACADEMY AWARDS

I was commissioned by THE ACADEMY to put my spin and interpretation on the Oscars Silhouette for the Academy Awards (which airs April 25th, 2021). My approach was simple –– Honor those of color who have paved the way. I was really inspired by Hattie McDaniel who was the first African American to win at the Academy Awards. I wanted my design to be unapologetically BLACK, but bold and vibrant just like Hattie. My design was chosen to be used on the official TV Commercial commemorating the 93rd Academy Awards.
